Spectrum of positive entropy multidimensional dynamical systems with a mixed time

It is shown that if an abelian countable group is such that is a finite group and every aperiodic positive entropy action of on a Lebesgue probability space has a countable Haar spectrum in the subspace , where denotes the Pinsker -
algebra of , then every aperiodic positive entropy action of on has the same property. A positive answer to the question of J.P. Thouvenot is obtained as a corollary.

     

Torus actions on symplectic orbi-spaces

Which -dimensional orbi-spaces have effective symplectic - torus actions? As shown by Lerman and Tolman (1997) and Watson (1997), this question reduces to that of characterizing the finite subgroups of centralizers of tori in the real symplectic group . We resolve this question, and generalize our method to a calculation of the centralizers of all tori in .

     

A note on triangular derivations of

For a field of characteristic zero, and for each integer , we construct a triangular derivation of whose ring of constants, though finitely generated over , cannot be generated by fewer than elements.

     

K-theory for finite covariant systems

LetA be a real or complex Banach algebra and assume that is an action of a finite groupG onA by means of continuous automorphisms. To such a finite covariant system (A, G, ), we associate an Abelian groupK(A, G, ). We obtain some classical exact sequences for an algebraA and a closed invariant idealI. We also compute the group in a few important special cases. Doing so, we relate our new invariant to the classicalK ₀ andK ₁ of a Banach algebra and to theK-theory of ₂-graded Banach algebras. Finally, we obtain a result that gives a close relationship of our groupK(A, G, ) with theK-theory of the crossed productA G. In particular, we prove a six-term exact sequence involving our groupK(A, G, ) and theK-groups ofA G. In this way, we hope to contribute to the well-known problem of finding theK-theory of the crossed productA G in the case of an action of a finite group.     

Lagrangian Description of World-Line Deviations

The interaction of an atmospheric pressure plasma jet using argon or argon plus hydrogen peroxide vapour addition with bacillus subtilis

This paper reports that an atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge plasma jet, which uses argon or argon + hydrogen peroxide vapour as the working gas, is designed to sterilize the bacillus subtilis. Compared with the pure argon plasma, the bacterial inactivation efficacy has a significant improvement when hydrogen peroxide vapour is added into the plasma jet. In order to determine which factors play the main role in inactivation, several methods are used, such as determination of optical emission spectra, high temperature dry air treatment, protein leakage quantification, and scanning electron microscope. These results indicate that the possible inactivation mechanisms are the synergistic actions of chemically active species and charged species.     

Canonical forms of 2 × 2 × 2 and 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 arrays over 𝔽2 and 𝔽3

We consider arrays of size 2?×?2?×?2 and 2?×?2?×?2?×?2 over the fields with two and three elements. We use computer algebra to determine the canonical forms of these arrays with respect to the action of the semidirect product of general linear groups with the symmetric group. For each canonical form, we determine the size of its orbit and the rank of the arrays in its orbit.     

Crossed-products extensions,of Lp-bounds for amenable actions

We will extend earlier transference results due to Neuwirth and Ricard from the context of noncommutative $L_p$-spaces associated with amenable groups to that of noncommutative $L_p$-spaces associated with crossed-products of amenable actions. Namely, if $m:G\to \mathbb{C}$ is a completely bounded Fourier multiplier on $L_p$, then it extends to the crossed-product with similar bounds provided that the action θ is amenable and trace-preserving. Furthermore, our construction also allows to extend G-equivariant completely bounded operators acting on the space part to the crossed-product provided that the generalized Følner sets of the action θ satisfy certain accretivity property. As a corollary we obtain stability results for maximal $L_p$-bounds over crossed products. We derive, using that stability results, an application to the boundedness of smooth multipliers in the $L_p$-spaces of group algebras.     

The space of stable weak equivalence classes of measure-preserving actions

The concept of (stable) weak containment for measure-preserving actions of a countable group Γ is analogous to the classical notion of (stable) weak containment of unitary representations. If Γ is amenable then the Rokhlin lemma shows that all essentially free actions are weakly equivalent. However if Γ is non-amenable then there can be many different weak and stable weak equivalence classes. Our main result is that the set of stable weak equivalence classes naturally admits the structure of a Choquet simplex. For example, when $\mathrm{\Gamma }=\mathbb{Z}$ this simplex has only a countable set of extreme points but when Γ is a nonamenable free group, this simplex is the Poulsen simplex. We also show that when Γ contains a nonabelian free group, this simplex has uncountably many strongly ergodic essentially free extreme points.
